{"id":3944,"date":"2014-12-20T09:18:23","date_gmt":"2014-12-20T17:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/larryeifert.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=3944"},"modified":"2023-11-12T08:00:51","modified_gmt":"2023-11-12T16:00:51","slug":"mcbride-atlantica-arts-collection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/larryeifert.com\/wordpress\/older-art-archives\/mcbride-atlantica-arts-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"McBride  Atlantica Arts Collection"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Ferndale McBride Collection<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is part of the collection of Viola Russ McBride, artist, third-generation rancher and adventurer.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the early 1980&#8217;s while I was in Ferndale on the northern coast of California, McBride collected many works of aspiring artists, but probably no more than she purchased from me. I believe the number was well over 50 originals.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Viola, along with another great pation named Mildred Radanovich, helped me continue my painting by buying my work, and, in the case of Ms. Radanovich, provided a wonderful gallery space for me to experiment with my work without fear of eviction. I doubt I would be writing this had it not been for these two good-hearted ladies. Both Viola and Mildred passed away in 1996.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some of these paintings are still owned by the family of Viola McBride. I found them on a web catalog, but no workable link was provided to communicate with the owners. On some, the image quality isn&#8217;t all that good, but at least it&#8217;s a record. All images click to larger versions.<br><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Probably most interesting to me is that many of these paintings show a rural Western America that is now largely gone, gentrified and cleaned up. This was still a working cattle ranch in the 1980&#8217;s.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Watercolor and ink<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div align=\"center\">\n<figure><a href=\"http:\/\/larryeifert.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Eifert_4_17x13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3959\" src=\"http:\/\/larryeifert.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/Eifert_4_17x13.jpg\" alt=\"Eifert_4_17x13\" width=\"273\" height=\"355\"><\/a><\/figure><p><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">South of Ferndale, a dirt road meandered along the ridgetop. Can&#8217;t remember it&#8217;s name now, but one side had a cool climate with firs, the other was hot dry grasslands.
